Manta isn't just another yacht consultancy and management company. We are a compact and dynamic team of reliable and personable maritime professionals, all of whom have worked in the industry for many years.
We listen carefully to what our clients want, and have the flexibility, drive and commitment to make sure what we provide meets or exceeds their requirements.
Taking great pride in our work, we are genuinely passionate about delivering and continuously improving Manta's range of products and services.
With our broad experience and deep expertise, we offer a comprehensive range of services, all designed to maximise the enjoyment of yacht ownership. Our services provide owners and operators with peace of mind – safe in the knowledge that all operational, technical and regulatory matters are in our safe and capable hands.
Since our founding in 2006, Manta has expanded from offering technical expertise for yachts (NB or something similar, just to show how the company has grown to now service the wider marine industry)- including full safety and regulatory compliance – to a full suite of professional management services to the marine industry.
Manta was established by Anthony Gradwell, a former Lloyd’s and flag State surveyor. Our team has grown and now includes specialist professionals across all key areas of superyacht management – including chartered naval architects, marine engineers, master mariners and project managers.
Anthony was introduced to sailing relatively late, with his interest in boating originating from family holidays on the Norfolk Broads. This ignited a passion which led him to study naval architecture - thus saving him from a career as a terrible musician.
After graduating from Strathclyde University, and serving several years as a Class surveyor, Anthony joined the Cayman Islands Shipping Registry in 2001. This propelled him into the world of luxury yachting and he's not looked back since.
In 2006, Anthony decided that there was more to life than being a civil servant, and moved back to the private sector to establish Manta. He's passionate about Manta flourishing, and is fully committed to providing a first class service to clients.
Currently Anthony is deeply involved with the operation, technical management, refitting and construction of several very large yachts, and thrives on working closely with their owners and crews.
A keen cyclist, Anthony can often be found in the hills of the Peak District when he is not working.
From as far back as he can remember, Ken has loved being on the water. He learnt to sail at a young age and designed and built his own sailing dinghy as a teenager. This led him to study naval architecture at university - and so began a lifelong passion with boat building and the sea.
Ken’s professional career started as a surveyor at Lloyd’s Register, where he moved through the ranks to become a specialist in the passenger safety department.
In 2002 he moved overseas to join the Cayman Islands Shipping Registry. Here he helped establish it as the largest superyacht registry in the world. He was at the forefront of the introduction of both the MCA and PYC Codes and, in more recent years, was involved with the design and construction of the world's largest yachts - from conception to delivery.
Ken is now DPA / CSO of Manta, and primarily focuses on safety management and regulatory consulting.
Ken still enjoys sailing - when he can find the time - and is looking forward to passing on his enthusiasm to his young son.
